Généralité

Q: What SoC are you using?

The SoC is a Amlogic S805 quad-core.

Q: What GPU does it include? ARM Mali-450 MP2.

In fact there are 4 GPU cores.

  • 2 fragment(pixel) processors and
  • 2 vertex shader processors(cores).

But normally we are counting the number of fragment processor only.

Q: How does it boot?

You have to boot from SD card or eMMC.

Q: Can I buy OS pre-loaded SD card or eMMC?

Yes. Add to cart it when you purchase the storage devices.

Q: Can I add extra RAM memory?

No. The RAM is not removable or swappable.

Q: How can I get Ubuntu/Android BSP source code?

U-boot, Kernel and OS source code are released via out Github from the first shipping date.

Q: Does it play 1080p contents well on Ubuntu Linux?

Yes, H.264/H.265/VC1/MPEG4/MPEG2 videos clips are playable with the XBMC/KODI in most cases.

But some variants of encoding options, a few video files can't play well.

Q: How can I root(rooting) the Android?

Unlocked/Rooted by default for developers

Q: How can I install the Google Play (Android Market/Google Store)?

It is very simple. Just download an installer and click it.

Q: Can I get PCB layout file and gerber file?

No. The ODROID project is not a full open source hardware.

We release the schematics(PDF) only.

Q: Can I get data sheet for all parts?

Other available data sheets are all linked on our website. Others might need NDA process with chip manufactures.

Q: Can you test it to make sure that it is suitable for ?

If you want to use it for something that we haven’t tested, and that it’s not intended for, then that development work is up to you.

  • HDMI monitor for output device & HDMI Cable (Not included)
  • Mouse for input device (Not included)
  • MicroSD Card for storage of OS & user data (Not included / 8GB or higher is required)
  • MicroSD Card reader to install OS image (Not included)
  • Ethernet cable (Not included)
  • Power supply: DC 5V/2A (Not included)

eMMC module is recommended due to much higher file IO speed (Not included)

Q: I am a platform/OS developer. What should I buy with ODROID-C1+? The minimum peripherals + below items.

  • USB-UART module Kit for debugging and system console (Not included)
  • Micro-USB cable for fastboot and ADB interface (Not included)

Q: I have a USB-Serial converter. Should I buy your USB-UART module kit? No if you can solder the terminals on the board.

We strongly recommend to use our USB-UART module kit because it has a proper connector.

Q: How to access internet with ODROID-C1+?

  • Use a 10/100/1000 LAN Ethernet connection
  • or Buy the WiFi module kit for wireless connection.

Q: What display can I use?

There is a HDMI (Type-A) output port on ODROID-C1+.

Here is a list of supported resolution at this moment.

  • 1920x1200 (WUXGA)
  • 1920x1080 (1080p)
  • 1280x720 (720p)
  • 720x480 (480p)
  • 720x576 (576p)
  • 1280x800 (800p for ODROID-VU)
  • 1280x1024 (SXGA)
  • 1024x768 (XGA)
  • 800x600 (SVGA)
  • 800x480 (WVGA)
  • 640x480 (VGA)

We will try to support more resolutions.

HDMI-DVI converter may work with many DVI monitors but a few of them will not work due to compatibility issue.

We also recommend our 7-inch HDMI LCD kit(ODROID-VU7) with a capacitive touch screen if you want to develop the modern user interface.

There is no analog VGA/TV output port. But there is a CVBS test point. Refer our schematics.

Q: Is there touch screen on the 7 inch HDMI LCD Kit (Vu7)?

Yes. 5-points multi-touch screen via USB interface.

Q: Where can I get HDMI cable?

You can purchase it from any open market such as ebay. Or you can purchase one on our website.

HDMI Type-A connector is required.

But some cables has a few missing ground wires and it causes malfunction with some monitors.

Q: My monitor doesn't have HDMI port. Any other display options are available?

You can use out 7-inch LCD kit which you can purchase on on our website.

Audio

Q: Is sound over HDMI supported?

Yes.

Q: SPDIF or Optical path-through?

It is possible with our USB-SPDIF interface but it works with only XBMC on Ubuntu.

Android platform doesn't support the 5.1ch pass-through yet.

Q: Is there any Analog audio output or input?

Stockage

Q: What is eMMC module?

NAND flash based storage IC is mounted on our custom PCB for easier upgrade/replacement.

It is much faster than SD card.

Transfer rate of eMMC is 65MB/sec approx. in the real world, while SD(UHS-1) card is 30MB/sec approx.

Q: Do you have a SATA port?

No. But you can use a SATA-to-USB bridge device.

Alimentation

Q: Which power adaptor should I use?

The ODROID-C1+ consumes less than 0.5A in most cases, but it can climb to 2A if many passive USB peripherals are attached directly to the main board.

You can use our 5V/2A PSU or USB-to-DC Plug cable.

Q: What operating system (OS) does it use?

We recommend Android and Ubuntu as our default distribution. The OS is stored on the SD-card / eMMC.

Q: Which Android & Ubuntu version is included?

  • Android 4.4.x
  • Ubuntu 14.04

Both OS run on Kernel 3.10 LTS.

Q: Which OpenGL and OpenCL are included in Android and Ubuntu?

  • OpenGL ES 1.1, 2.0
  • OpenCL is not supported.

Q: Where is the OpenGL-ES SDK?

Q: Is full source code open and can I build it by myself?

Yes. Boot loader, Kernel and OS platform source code is available.

But the GPU user-land drivers are library(binary) format. (Limited by ARM's policy)

Q: Do I need to patch for optional accessories that purchased from this website?

No. They will work just out-of-box.

Q: Does the device support networking?

Yes. There is 10/100/1000 RJ45 Ethernet port.

Q: Is there WiFi?

It is available via an optional USB dongle.
