Normally ODROID-XU4 consumes about 1~2Amp in most cases. But it can go up to 4A when the computing load is very high with a few USB devices.

The SoC is a Samsung Exynos5422 Octa

Q: What GPU does it include?

ARM Mali-T628 6 Cores

Q: How does it boot?

You can boot from SD card or eMMC flash storage. Please check the boot select switch besides the HDMI connector. Note:

  • Bootloader is also on kept on the removable storage.
  • There is no kind of BIOS/internal firmware on board.
  • When no correct SD/eMMC installed, it will be totally dead and even cold.

Q: Can I buy OS pre-loaded SD card or eMMC module?

Yes. Add to cart it when you purchase the storage devices.

Q: Can I add extra RAM memory?

No. The RAM is a PoP package on top of the SoC, so it’s not removable or swappable.

Q: I have other ODROID board. Is it upgradable to ODROID-XU4? No.

Can I get PCB layout file and gerber file?

No. The ODROID project is not a full open source hardware.

We release the schematics PDF only.

Q: Can I get data sheet for all parts?

No. Available data sheets are all linked on our website. Others might need NDA process with chip makers.

Q: Can you test it to make sure that it is suitable for SOMETHING?

If you want to use it for something that we haven’t tested, and that it’s not intended for (i.e. anything but the educational work we’re planning for it), then that development work is up to you. But a lot of community members will try to answer for your question.

Yes. But we have no firm plan/schedule to make a DAC board.

Stockage

Q: What is the eMMC module?

NAND flash based storage IC is mounted on our custom PCB for easier upgrade/replacement.

It is much faster than SD card.

Transfer rate of eMMC 5.0 is 140MB/sec approx. in the real world, while SD-class card is only 10~20MB/sec approx.

Q: Do you have SATA port?

We support the SATA interface via SuperSpeed USB 3.0

USB 3.0 to SATA interface kit works with 3.5inch and 2.5inch HDD/SSD.

Average transfer rate is 140MB/sec approx.
